SIG Charters
Each Special Interest Group is an organization with its own charter as its governing document.

Incubation
Incubation is a term sometimes used for helping businesses to get started. In this case it's for clubs, events or projects getting started as a Special Interest Group under SBAY. We use the term similarly to the Apache Software Foundation and the Open Source Geospatial Foundation when they bring new projects on board.
New SIGs will use the
IncubationChecklistTemplate to determine the course from entry to exit from Incubation.
Graduation from Incubation
The following SIGs were grandfathered in and exempted from the incubation process at the time of the approval of the By-Laws when they were amended with new SIG rules and other preparations for the 501(c)3 tax-exempt status application. Each is required to make its own charter (organizing document).
- Stratofox - charter approved July 25, 2006
- SVWUX - charter approved July 25, 2006
- Linux Picnic - charter pending
Mail List
The
SIGs mail list is intended for discussion among SIGs and how to provide support for them. Each SIG is basically a club within the club, with their own specific topic of interest but also a lot of common needs for maintaining a technical group.
